DataMirror Launches MetaCapture

Other Posts

DataMirror has introduced MetaCapture, a new feature that provides enhanced metadata support for Transformation Server, DataMirror’s real-time data integration software. MetaCapture offers an open, standards-based approach of using metadata in a heterogeneous environment.

DataMirror’s Enterprise Administrator for Transformation Server Version 2.2 features a powerful new MetaCapture facility that allows users to view their entire replication network in a single snapshot and export detailed metadata directly into front-end applications and tools without custom coding. MetaCapture is an open solution that supports the OMG’s standard for Metadata Integration, Open Information Model (OIM), and XML Interchange Format (XIF). DataMirror is also committed to providing future support for the next version of the OMG’s Common Warehouse Metamodel (CWM), which is currently in development.

Metadata tracks the lineage of data by providing information about where the data came from, when it was delivered, what happened to it during transport, and other descriptions which can be tracked. Metadata enables a clear understanding of the data on which decisions are based. Examining detailed metadata enhances the user’s understanding of the data he or she is using and contributes to effective business intelligence.

“Metadata management is absolutely essential to ensure a successful business intelligence or CRM implementation,” said Nigel Stokes, chairman and CEO of DataMirror. “Using Transformation Server, organizations can now easily export metadata to another repository such as Microsoft Repository or directly into end user query and analysis tools. Without this functionality, companies often must resort to time-consuming custom development that may negatively impact time to market.”

In addition to new MetaCapture capabilities, Enterprise Administrator Version 2.2 includes intuitive drag-and-drop functionality that allows Transformation Server customers to easily drag data from the publisher or source system directly into database tables on the subscriber or target system.
