Every woman needs to feel sexy and desirable on occasion and I am no different. I found myself in a slump after having my first child. I felt unattractive and overwhelmed with my new responsibilities. The innate sensuality that all women possess was waning in me and I needed to do something to give my self confidence a boost; and fast. So to recapture my voluptuousness, I decided to get myself some new lingerie. Here are some things I learned in the process.

You have to be comfortable in whatever lingerie you choose to buy. If you aren’t comfortable in your lingerie, you won’t feel sexy and you may not wear it at all, which would be a waste of your hard earned money. Buy lingerie that complements your body type. If you are a pear shape, smaller on the top and then tapering out on the bottom, silky robes and sleepwear, chemises or baby dolls may be best. Straight or very slim women look best in things that soften angles with a natural flow and drape over the body. The upside down pear shaped woman is bustier, and proportionally smaller below the waist than above it. In this case, buy plunging neck-lines, like halters, to accent your bust and flatter your curves. More apple-shaped, or round, women will want to buy lingerie pieces that define and elongate the waist while making the top and bottoms appear larger. And those women who are fortunate enough to have an hourglass figure, with a smaller waste and proportionate top and bottom can make almost anything look great.

Once you analyze your body type and decide which style of lingerie will work best for you, then you need to choose where you want to make your purchases. The larger department stores have extensive sections of intimate apparel, but stores specializing in lingerie may have more variety. Some independent lingerie stores will even special order things for you once they become familiar with your size and style. Online lingerie stores also have a very wide selection. But keep in mind you won’t be able to try anything on if you order over the internet, so if you do, be confident of the size and familiar with their return policy. And catalogs released by some of the major lingerie stores will allow you to get an idea of the merchandise offered before you even go to the store to try on.

If you are a brave woman, and this is offered in your area, attend a lingerie party. Lingerie items are modeled at these gatherings so you can have an idea of what you are getting and if you like, you can even order while you are there. But don’t buy anything out of character. If you are not normally into lots of frills and details in your clothing, then avoid lacy lingerie. And if you are more on the conservative side, then don’t go for the racy items, unless you are trying to step outside of your comfort zone. In that case, go for whatever makes you happy and feel like the beautiful woman you are.
